About Cathleen Savage
Cathleen Savage is a classically trained painter working in oils and watercolors.
She began painting and drawing at an early age with encouragement from her mother and father, a draftsman. Soon after moving to Chesapeake, Virginia, she began painting lessons with a local artist and her parents enrolled her in the Chesapeake Demonstration School, an experimental program that emphasized the fine arts. In college, she studied painting and printmaking. She was fortunate to spend time working with well known guest faculty members such as Christopher Brown, Harmony Hammond, and Jack Beal.
After a successful career in the nonprofit sector, Cathleen retired early in order to pursue her art more seriously. Her paintings reflect an early preference for realism, with special attention to the rendering of the effects of light. Favorite subjects include wildlife and nature as well as more playful objects, such as seductive desserts and pastries.
She currently resides in the mountains of Southern Colorado with her husband and three dogs.
